Aston Villa now scout 22-year-old ‘going to be special’ as Hull brace for bids

Aston Villa are now among the Premier League teams scouting Hull City star Jacob Greaves in view of his transfer. The Tigers are also braced for offers for the sought-after centre-back.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that Aston Villa are tracking Greaves with Unai Emery keen to strengthen his backline. But the Spaniard could face competition from Brentford and Nottingham Forest with the 22-year-old on a host of top-flight club’s radars.

Scouts for Premier League teams view Greaves to be the most interesting defensive talent outside of the top-flight. He has already enjoyed 123 senior appearances for Hull and is the Tigers’ vice-captain. Liam Rosenior has even fielded the centre-half at left-back this season.

Hull have taken advantage of Greaves’ comfortable nature on the ball to feature as a wing-back. His efforts in a wider role have also returned four goals and two assists over 17 of his 33 Championship appearances this season. The Cottingham-born talent has started in 31.

A further benefit for his Premier League suitors is that Greaves would count toward their homegrown quotas. Yet Hull would demand £7m as he signed a new contract through to 2026 last August. It also features an optional further year but clubs could put it to the test.

Hull City are braced for transfer bids as Aston Villa join the clubs scouting Greaves

Hull are braced for bids with Aston Villa among the Premier League clubs scouting Greaves in view of his transfer. Middlesbrough had explored his signature last summer, as well. The Northern Echo noted that Chris Wilder considered the left-footed star to be his top target.

Boro were hot on Greaves’ case after he rejected a new contract and told Hull of his desire to leave. Yet the Tigers then convinced their academy product, who former Hull boss Grant McCann claimed was ‘going to be special’, to stay. Now, it may seal him a top-flight switch.
