Montana man traveling to Boston by way of horse and buggy passes through Nebraska

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – There’s a lot of ways to travel across the country, and in south Hastings you may have seen a man choose to do so by horse and buggy.

Lee the Horselogger is 63 years old, and he’s traveling from East Glacier, Montana to Boston, Massachusetts. He started in June but due to his trusted steed Jessie experiencing health issues, they haven’t made much progress.

This is Lee’s fifth trip across the country by horse and buggy, and he doesn’t travel the same route each time. Lee has been taking these expositions since 2006, and topography is a factor in which route he takes. Lee adds, it’s important to let people know a horse is still a form of transportation.

“Although there are cowboys, and I say that with a certain amount of cynicism, the fact is that horsemanship is disappearing,” said Lee.

Lee’s total journey is just over 2,700 miles. Together, Lee and Jessie can only go three miles per hour, and there’s a reason Lee is taking this journey.

Because just because, I love driving my horse,” said Lee. “I’m going blind so I’m doing this before I lose my all my eyesight.”

Lee adds, traveling with his horse is his passion.

“It’s my life,” Lee said. “You know it’s not really an issue of meaning anything, it’s what I do. Here I am going through Nebraska, having all kinds of problems and having all kinds of kind people to visit with.”
