Say goodbye to PWHL Boston, and say hello to the Boston Fleet.

After an inaugural season with its six teams known only by the cities they represented, the PWHL finally announced nicknames and brand identities for its franchises on Monday morning.

Along with the Fleet, the other team names are: Minnesota Frost, Victoire de Montreal, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres.

Boston captain Hilary Knight appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Monday to announce the team names alongside PWHL VP of business operations Amy Scheer.

“The fans from day one told us they wanted conventional team names,” Scheer said. “They told us a few things. The names need to be bold, the names need to be confident, need to be strong, and you better make sure they tie back to the city and the state.

“We hope that we did that through these names, and we can’t wait to see our fans bring these names to life.”

It was a fairly successful first season for the PWHL despite the lack of unique brand identities, with each team wearing nearly identical jerseys that were differentiated largely by colors.

“From my perspective, it’s minor,” said Danielle Marmer, GM of Boston’s PWHL team, ahead of last season. “We see on social media, there’s rumblings about the names and I think that’s happening in every market but we’re not too worried about it. Whatever we end up going with with a name, I think our fans will get behind it.”
