The Revolution managed to make only limited additions to their on-field roster at the recent closing of the primary MLS transfer window, but the club was able to add a potentially impactful figure to its front office on Monday.

David Kammarman, previously the head scout for Los Angeles FC, was officially announced by the Revolution as the team’s new head of player recruitment. The hiring was originally reported by Paul Tenorio of The Athletic.

The addition of Kammarman gives New England’s front office more experience, and a history of success in terms of building MLS rosters. He joins a personnel group that includes sporting director Curt Onalfo, technical director Remi Roy, and assistant sporting director Chris Tierney.

Like new Revolution head coach Caleb Porter, Kammarman arrives in New England with a track record of championships.

With LAFC, Kammarman helped the Western Conference powerhouse win multiple Supporters’ Shields as well as the 2022 MLS Cup. Prior to that, he worked as a scout for Atlanta United from 2017-2019 (a time in which Atlanta won the title in 2018). From 2009-2016, he was the Los Angeles Galaxy’s director of soccer operations, contributing to three more MLS Cup wins. His league experience also includes earlier stints with D.C. United, Chicago Fire FC, and the New York MetroStars.

The situation Kammarman is walking into with the Revolution will require some roster decisions both in the summer and then following the 2024 season. Porter has acknowledged that his team “needs pieces,” as the Revolution currently reside in the bottom of the Eastern Conference through 10 games.

When the secondary transfer window opens on July 18, Porter has outlined his intentions to make multiple additions. To do that, the Revolution will need to open up a few roster spots, presenting choices that will fall to Kammarman along with Porter and the rest of New England’s staff.
