The holiday, which is celebrated every year on Sept. 5, honors pizza in its simplest form, and several Boston-area restaurants are getting into the cheesy spirit.

Below you can find a list of pizza shops offering free slices and pies in honor of National Cheese Pizza Day.

The official pizza of the Boston Red Sox will be offering a free Lil Sal’s 7-inch cheese pizza when people buy an extra-large cheese pizza online using the code “CHEESE.” Extra toppings are not allowed and the offer is only valid Thursday at Sal’s locations in Billerica, Chelmsford, Boston, Derry, New Hampshire and Manchester, New Hampshire.

Dedham House of Pizza is celebrating National Cheese Pizza Day by offering customers a free cheese slice on orders $30 and more. Orders can be placed on the mobile app or online. The restaurant is located at 376 Washington St. in Dedham.

Buy one large cheese pizza at any New York Pizza location and get one large cheese pizza free. Orders can be placed in-store, by phone or online. New York Pizza has locations in Boston’s South End, Theatre District and Central Square in Cambridge.

Pantry Pizza is offering one free cheese slice with a purchase of any other slice in honor of National Cheese Pizza Day Thursday. This offer is limited to one per person and orders must be placed at the shop located at 931 Dorchester Ave.
