Boston has some of the best small businesses in the U.S., according to Yelp

Yelp is celebrating local businesses everywhere.

In honor of Small Business Month, Yelp released a list of the top 100 local businesses in the U.S. on Wednesday, including four Greater Boston spots.

To curate the list, Yelp identified independent owned and operated businesses in each category that appears on the list. Businesses were ranked based on several factors, including amount of reviews and ratings within the reviews.

“These businesses adapt to the evolving needs of their community and play a role that often extends beyond the transaction, creating special connections and fostering neighborhood growth,” Yelp shared in a release.

Here are the four Greater Boston shops that made Yelp’s 2024 top 100 small businesses list:

Dao Tailor Alteration & Custom Design, Waltham (Fashion)

The owner of Dao Tailor Alteration and Custom Design has dressmaking experience that spans continents — from Vietnam to Waltham. The goal of this business is not to just help someone discover their dream dress or gown, but “everything else in between.”

Melrose Oriental Rug Co, Melrose (Home Decor)

For over 40 years, the Mouradian family has owned and operated Melrose Oriental Rug, which specializes in cleaning, repairs, and sales of handmade rugs. Their showroom houses a collection of oriental rugs, handmade in countries such as India, Egypt, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran.

The Outer Limits, Waltham (Books, Music, and Video)

The Outer Limits in Waltham has sold comic books and vintage pop culture items for over 40 years. The shop carries an extensive collection of comics, trade paperbacks, graphic novels, toys, and more.

WAR Automotive Technology, Malden (Auto)

WAR Automotive Technology, an auto repair shop in Malden, offers a variety of services, including computerized engine analysis, cooling system maintenance, fuel injection services, oil changes, Bosch service, and more. The shop is certified in Asian and domestic market vehicles and also specializes in BMW, VW, Audi, Subaru, and Saab 9-2X vehicles.

Four other New England spots made the list of best local businesses in the U.S.: Redscroll Records in Wallingford, Connecticut (Books, Music, and Video); The Travelin Lobster in Bar Harbor, Maine (Food); Stock Culinary Goods in Providence, Rhode Island (Home Decor); and TreeTrails Adventures – Mystic in Mystic, Connecticut (Kids Activities).
