Celtics: Jayson Tatum Talks About Boston Claiming Game 1 Win vs Cavs Despite Having Subpar Performance

The Boston Celtics grabbed a decisive 120-95 victory at home over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals playoff series on Tuesday, May 7, at the TD Garden in Boston.

The team achieved this despite limited offensive production from their best player, Jayson Tatum, who only scored 18 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the field.

Tatum went on to praise his team’s construction, highlighting the abundance of talent that enabled them to succeed.

“Really just what I’ve been saying all year. We got a really, really talented team. Shows the depth of our team and how we can win games in a lot of different ways,” the 26-year-old told the media in the post-game press conference.

Tatum also went 0-of-5 from three-point distance, but he made significant contributions elsewhere, grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing out five assists, and blocking three shots, ending the game with a +18 rating.

Derrick White continues sensational playoff campaign

Celtics guard Derrick White has continued his streak of impressive performances in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

The 29-year-old playmaker scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, including 7-of-12 from three-point range, and added five assists. 

“If you don’t know Derrick White, you better get to know him,” Celtics star Jaylen Brown declared in the post-game interview.

Brown led the team in scoring with 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting.
